Attention Homeowners!

At LMR SERVICES, we’re currently working on 6 projects. Last night we were scheduling our next workday (it was late again), we were asking ourselves….Do other companies care as much as we do? When I left my 9-5 to start this company 7 years ago, I thought we’d be doing less work. LOL! We’ve never worked harder, but it’s rewarding—and hell what else would I be doing anyway? Lifting more weights? My wife says I’m already too big..  (that’s impossible)!

We have a solid team though everyone cares about their work. Each person plays a role -  making sure everyone else can do their jobs. Dependable. The newest guy to the head foreman, everyone takes pride in their work and genuinely cares about the client experience,  the team and the project’s final result. The finish. Like doing battle sometimes. Finishing up exhausted and on a time line. Its rewarding. I know we all feel it.

During hiring which is very selective now I always ask myself  - Do they care about their work? I want to know if they have empathy for those around them. Do they get home and think about their day? Think about what they could have done better? Are they proud of the projects they’ve worked on? My foreman loves to teach and pass down knowledge, not from arrogance but from a place of helpfulness. That’s the good kind of pride at least I believe we are missing today. Good heart. (A pain in the ass. But has a good heart) — sharing his most valued commodity: time. And sometimes money .

Yesterday, I found myself picking up trash and cleaning a job site. Started to get in my head… I have read every book out there on teamwork, leadership and management styles. It’s enough to make my head spin.  Started asking myself is this poor delegation? Job slippage as Ray Dalio would say. But, all I have is my experience up until this point. I started looking at it as humility. I typically focus on sales and growth. And for the most part thats where all the guys want me anyway.  Out of their way leaving them alone and letting them work. But, nothing is beneath me. it’s something I get to do, not something I have to do. I get to help. Even on the small stuff.

Now, I want to hear from you:

- Have you ever hired a bad contractor? What went wrong?

- What red flags should homeowners look for?

- How do you feel when a contractor shows genuine care for their work?

Share your experiences in the comments! Your insights can help others in our community make better renovation choices!
